Forty Grams
Our commitments
We want Forty Grams to be good for the people who eat it, the people who make it and the place we live. Here's what we promise, and what we're still working towards.
Fair pay for local work
- Our chef's kitchen is paid for every bowl it cooks, and we buy all the ingredients and packaging.
- Anyone we pay to deliver gets at least the National Living Wage for their time, whatever their age.
- Gyms and shops that stock us keep 15% of what they sell, and we take back anything that doesn't sell.
- Personal trainers earn on the customers they refer.
- Nobody works for free.
Honest food
- Every bowl has at least 40 g of protein. Our nutrition figures are worked out from each recipe, and every recipe is lab-tested before launch.
- Every label lists the ingredients, with allergens in bold, plus a nutrition table, the use-by date and how to store and reheat the bowl.
- Allergen information is on our website before you order, and on every label. Our kitchen handles all 14 major allergens, so we can't promise any bowl is free from them.
- We say "high in protein" and stick to the claims the law allows. Our bowls are food, not a treatment for anything.
Good value
- One price for a single bowl, wherever you buy it: £9.00. Packs from £6.50 a bowl.
- Every charge is shown before you pay. No subscription.
Safe food
- Everyone who handles our food is trained in food hygiene before they start, and everyone who cooks, packs or labels it is trained in allergens too.
- Bowls stay chilled at 0–5°C from our kitchen to you, and we log the temperature.
Less waste
- Online orders are cooked to order, so we cook what's been sold.
- The plan: unsold bowls go to a local charity that feeds people who need a meal, collected before their use-by date and kept chilled. We haven't chosen the charity yet, and we'll say who it is when we have.
What we're working towards
Packaging you can recycle at home
We won't call it recyclable until it is. Within a year of launch we'll have priced a recyclable or reusable option for every item, and switched wherever it keeps the food safe and we can afford it.
Local ingredients
Within six months of launch we'll ask suppliers near our kitchen to quote, and every six months we'll report how much of our food spending stays local.
Keeping ourselves honest
- We check these commitments against our records every month and review them every year.
- Once a year we'll publish a short update on what we've done.
- Questions or concerns? Email hello@40grams.co.uk. We reply within two working days.
